• Squat & Grow

Squat & Grow was a two-week series of workshops, performative enactments, talks and field trips that were aimed to support a sustainable food culture in Singapore and test alternative scenarios of a smart city. The project encouraged citizens to participate and co-design an open platform organized around DIY low-cost technology and  so-called "smart" food practices.

S&G hosted several fermentation workshops run by the Fermentation GutHub collective, a DIY rice wine making session by Sewon FoodLab Yogyakarta, a kimchi tutorial by The Asian Raw Chef,  a Fruit BioSynth workshop run by members of the Lifepatch lab Yogyakarta, a DIY lubricants workshop organised with trans sex-workers in the Singapore's Little India district, and much more. These experiments provided a shared space for peer-governed food science and learning outside of the officially recognised (and often less accessible) expert circles.
